AMAR restaurant

Located in the heart of Yerevan, Amar restaurant is nestled in the middle of the Hrazdan canyon. The Hrazdan River is a major river and the second largest in Armenia, flowing through Yerevan's greenest gorge, a favorite entertainment spot for citizens. The restaurant was originally designed and built in 2020 as a fully open-air establishment, operating for several months of the year. However, due to Armenia's location in the temperate zone, experiencing all four seasons distinctly, we soon had to redesign the restaurant, expanding it and enclosing it under a roof to allow for year-round operation. The lush greenery of the valley served as the foundation for our restaurant concept, aiming to bring the outdoors inside. We wanted to maintain the spectacular view of the canyon, so we designed the roof to be as open and transparent as possible, allowing sunlight to filter through. The ceiling is adorned with small point lights, resembling a starry sky. Natural materials such as wood, stone, plants, and straw were exclusively used in the project to create a harmonious design. To avoid overwhelming the space, we kept the walls white and added wooden decorative elements to the bar area. The bar is centrally located in the hall, facing a large dance floor. Travertine sculptures and mirrors with our unique design are strategically placed throughout the hall. One standout feature is a huge table supported by a root of a large tree, discovered and retrieved from the Aegean Sea. This restaurant belongs to the alfresco and biophilic design categories. "AMAR," translated from Armenian, means summer, so we had to make a year-round summer spot in Yerevan. This is the second reason why we picked this sunny and light style for our project.
