INSPIRATION: When the nature becomes an inspiration, there are no boundaries between inside and outside. The design of the Ariel Sands project is a bridge between architecture and nature. A pure design approach to touching nature without interfering with it, so that the resort is largely in tune with its topography and at the same time detached from it. With respect to the local vernacular architecture, Bermuda roofs were introduced into the modern design of the villas. The main concept is a design typology in straight lines at different heights and applications of materials that have been used to give a dynamic visual interaction, guaranteeing privacy and shading on the south facade, with optimized view of the ocean from each unit - and regulating the entry of sunlight by a system of louvers and shade, while always allowing natural ventilation. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ariel Sands is a large site facing the blue water of the Atlantic, and sitting on the pink beaches of Bermuda. Because of its monumental scale, Studio PCH was faced with the challenge of designing a resort-like site, with all the amenities it has to offer while fostering everyone’s privacy. The firm’s intent was therefore to imagine a structure offering an overall feeling of warmth, safety and practicality, while managing to keep the privacy of every single one of the residents - whereas they’re temporary or not - and their guests. The villas are scattered on the terrain remote from the hotel's public area, forming a relatively independent and interrelated network of properties. In the gorgeous setting of Ariel Sands, it was mandatory each villa would enjoy a direct ocean view - which can be challenging when trying to accommodate guests of the resort as well. Studio PCH managed to extend this privilege to every unit on site: Every single room of the hotel, every one of the condo, can enjoy their own picturesque view of the Atlantic ocean. Studio PCH’s goal was also to enhance the experience of travel, whereas is it for one time visitors to villa owners, using current technologies such as online check-in/check- out providing Ariel Sands with optimized privacy and calm. und floor and communal spaces have become an oasis of tranquility, only perturbed by the sound of the crashing nearby waves.
