The life of a modern family The family for whom we designed this house is an example of the variety of family situations we encounter when designing our spaces. The parents were not only looking for private spaces to carry out their work and personal activities, but also spaces adapted to the different ages and times of their offspring. All connected by family environments that allow all family members to come together. Minimising energy consumption through traditional solutions We take it upon ourselves to minimise environmental impact through traditional solutions. For example, we study the annual sunshine to determine the location of grids, overhangs and even the position of the swimming pool to cool the air in the house. Using advanced techniques to minimise environmental impact. Water conservation - such as rainwater harvesting and channelling to a Mediterranean garden, grey water treatment and the use of high generation pool irrigation, purification and filtration systems. Energy saving - from photovoltaic solar energy collection, increased insulation and a domotic system for opening windows and controlling temperature and humidity, etc. Project Solution It was decided to create a sectored house for the use of the family, according to the presence of its members in daily life. Two zones have been created: the first floor with the main bedrooms, large and spacious terraces and the infinity pool; and the ground floor with the secondary bedrooms and work areas, and access to the Mediterranean garden. We interpreted the needs of this family and managed to combine them with the characteristics of the site. We have recreated the language of the Tramuntana mountains by means of a large concrete block pierced with wooden lattices, which is set on a base of Mallorcan stone. In addition, its high windows help us to connect with the Mediterranean. This formal solution allows us to create an element of communication with the environment. It offers an energetic treatment of the building, closing off the north, covering the south with overhangs and opening its windows to the sea breeze. The inclination of the concrete block allows us to collect rainwater and create large overhangs. Liquid architecture The BDP-18011 is a perfect example of the studio's philosophy of liquid architecture.
