Set to be the largest regeneration scheme in Wales, Central Quay in Cardiff is a mixed-use scheme that will cover 2.5 million square feet. It will become a public hub, located on the site of the Brains Brewery in the heart of the city. The site, which runs along the River Taff, will offer a waterfront plaza featuring an expansive food and beverage offering as well as 1,000 apartments and 1.5 million square feet of new office space. As a tribute to the heritage sites, the original 19 th century Brewhouse will form the backdrop of the riverside plaza, anchored by the original branded Brains chimney. The client's ambition to bring together existing land, buildings and infrastructure to create a strong identity as well as a sense of place at the heart of a practical and forward-thinking masterplan. The vision is to create a truly mixed-use place, engaging the city with the River Taff and its heart, bringing the Brains Brewery complex back to life around fantastic new public square. Working closely with the Design Commission for Wales and Cardiff Council planning, the future design will connect the new framework of the space with the urban infrastructure, following a pedestrian-led scheme that will link people to the rest of the city. For those living on site, the residential amenities and integrated access will allow for maximum connectivity with ease. The first phase of this central development is slated to begin in September of this year with the project being completed by June 2020.
