CLEAN ENERGY COMPOST MANUFACTURING FACILITY SYDNEY

The project vision is to be the most sustainable, healthy compost facility in the world, running on 100% renewable energy and operating water neutral. The building will turn organic waste into valuable and healthy soils while generating no additional waste. collection of Food Organic waste and Garden Organic waste from homes and commercial venues is taken to the compost facility where the collected elements are treated, stored and then reused for public use. An educational facility is provided where school children and interested groups can go on a tour and learn about the recycling process and where our home waste goes and how it can be reused. The landscaped elements offer an insight in to the Aboriginal history of the site and how water flows through the site and its significance to Aboriginal culture and heritage. The 45 065m² site features a steep embankment to the Wianamatta River on the eastern edge, with softly undulating terrain rising generally to the west. The site has largely been cleared and features little observed biodiversity, currently dominated by turf and pasture weed, with remnant stands of Cumberland Plains woodland to the street frontage. The Site’s contouring will be addressed through a staggering of levels within the proposal, to provide a building envelope that gently falls towards the east along the slope of the existing Site. With a combined lot frontage of approximately 130m wide, and maximum lot length of approximately 440m, the proposed layout of facilities run longitudinally over the site. The western entrance focusses on vehicle ingress and egress, and building façade, with the east end of the site containing water treatment for stormwater and runoff before entering natural watercourses. This orientation also allows the facilities buildings to take advantage of solar gain for roof solar panels, providing a roof layout that falls to the north for potential all day energy collection.
