Concrete Blonde is an architectural jewellery box, a considerately updated Annandale cottage that unfolds from the modest heritage façade to a generously spaced home expressing the warmth of earth tones and natural materials, capturing natural light through its skylights and courtyard. A material palette of concrete, timber and light brick, when bathed in natural light permeating the home creates a warm, calming, contemplative dwelling. Every room within Concrete Blonde was specially made. From the quality of materials, to the detail of the ideas - every moment crafted so that it compliments the other. You can see this from the care of the restoration of the this very sweet row house, the pared back corridor space - restrained yet beautifully controlled then to the sensory explosion of the living, and kitchen and dining rooms - a shared space of rich and textural materials that allow you to feel comfortable, relaxed and warmly embraced. Bedrooms are found on upper levels for privacy but enjoy that same richness of materials. The architects have embraced the wainscoting idea to anchor a room, but also for the practical working of people and walls together. Familiar green references adorn the walls. Calming the space and bestowing a timeless quality. Bathrooms are divided equality between owners. His is compartmentalised spatially; not with walls, but implied by beautiful curved containers - holding half the space and asking for the other half by implication. This room is also a highly functional laundry, but you wouldn’t know it. Hers is a tall flowing space of growing gardens hanging like a necklace of pearls enjoying the warm humidity of the shower. Both feel generous in space, though create that space differently. Concrete Blonde is a house imbued full of meaning.
