Daimler AG Office renovation VTC

Stuttgart, Untertürkheim

Given the task of refurbishing the Van Technology Center at Daimler AG, Gellink + Schwämmlein Architekten faced the challenge of creating an open, stylishly modern work place from an existing cellular office space. The task was to combine functionality, transparency, communication and atmosphere within the new spatial concept. Very important was to create flexible working environments in order to increase communication and collaboration. The elliptical shape of the building was taken into account in the interior design, so that the user can easily orient themselves in the building. The aim of the new concept was to make all workplaces open and equal to ensure a bright, clear and communicative spatial structure. This was achieved by repositioning the work spaces along the interior and exterior facades, coupled with the striking redesign of the ceiling in conjunction with a new lighting concept. The spatial concept is completed by using upscale materials that not only serve the aesthetic, but also support the acoustics. At the heart of the new space is the meeting room zone. The meeting rooms here were designed as transparent enclosures and adapted to the shape of the buildings ellipse. Through the use of translucent curtains, the rooms can be made into more private meeting rooms, areas for focused work, or larger gatherings, but without losing the lightness created by their transparency.
