Don Majestic Hotel

Don Majestic Hotel is a new Hotel in Punta del Este, Uruguay, designed by Guevara Ottonello Architects. The main requirement for the design of the hotel was to try to build an innovative architecture, with a singular and unique shape. The client wanted to try to build a “jewel”. Therefore, the main objective and the main challenge was to create, to design, to conceive and then to develop an innovative design, an Architectural Jewel, an Icon. The hotel is 5.900 m2. It has got 52 rooms and several amenities. Concepts / Design process Singularity and uniqueness are the main concepts that have guided the creation of the Hotel. For the design, and for the process of transforming the abstract concepts into the real, the Architects got inspired by nature, by the curves of nature. The studio designed a sculptural curved piece of architecture, conceived with the same concepts and spirit, from the macro to the micro scale, from the exterior design to the interior design. Innovative Engineering structure To obtain and materialize the sculptural shape of the building, with floor plans that vary in size, the studio has designed a very exceptional engineering structure, with a unique central pillar in the core of the building This core holds, apart from the structure, the elevator, stairs, and bathrooms, allowing to have the rest of the floor plan completely free. Having the perimeter free, without pillars, enabled all the rooms of the hotel to benefit from a very wide and uninterrupted incredible view of Punta del Este. Innovative Curved Glazing Façade An essential architectural aspect of the hotel is the Skin of the building. The essence of the sculptural shape is the curve, and therefore it has been crucial for the design to install curved glasses in the whole building. The hotel has got 360 degrees of floor to ceiling curved glasses, enabling to have incredible views, and the quality of light achieved by full height glazing. This approach maximizes the use of natural light and the sense of connection between the guests and the external landscape. Interior Design Architecture and interior design are very united in the project, they have been conceived with the same spirit, looking for the creation of curved shapes, and pursuing the concepts of singularity, uniqueness, and memorable experiences. The interior design was inspired by the mission of trying to create somehow a “promenade Architecturale”, along all the spaces of the hotel. The main objective and the main challenge in Don Majestic Hotel has been the creation of an innovative architectural design. Since the main requirement of the client was to try to build a “Jewel”, a Punta del Este Icon, the objective has been to create a unique architectural design. The architects have designed the hotel with creativity, with poetic, with courage and with passion, looking for the creation of an innovative piece of architecture, an architectural Jewel, an Icon. Looking for that moment when architecture transcend itself. Trying to express poetic in its architecture.
