DSN Headquarters is a sustainable workspace that combines an energy-efficient building and a holistic comfortable work environment for staff members. A 4-storey double-glazed low-emission headquarter building with double skin facade on the west and eastern sides of the building, where the equatorial sun and heat gain is maximum. Its curvilinear shape plans allow the formation of a cooler open courtyard facing the lagoon. The site is located next to a large water reservoir, in the middle of a successful industrial estate, called Pulo Gadung Estate. DSN wants to create a comfortable work environment for the staff, with facilities such as a large open canteen facing the main courtyard with possibility to dine in outdoor terraces. The DSN building provides a home to all staff members, the interior space feels more like a five star hospitality space rather than a more modern office headquarter. There are also a series of lounges and intimate interactive spaces throughout the premier encounters among staff members. The architecture appears soft and floats lightly above the green gardens, a poetic presence in contrast to the industrial estate that surrounds the DSN office. The modern and sophisticated design reflects DSN as a leading agro industry that cares for the environment. Double-glazed low-emission glass facade on the northern and southern sides appears to reflect the garden, and a cocoon-like western and eastern facades that reduce direct sunlight with perforated aluminium membranes as a secondary skin. Almost all of the materials and manufacturing of the finished products are resourced and made in Indonesia. The perforated aluminum membrane used for the second skin, managed to give a cocoon like "bubu" / bamboo fish trap, a cultural artifact on the north coastal area of Jakarta. It is energy efficient, and made from upcycled waste products. The design minimalize carbon footprints by using locally-sourced materials such as natural stone. The secondary aluminium skin is produced locally by a company in East Java from recycled maspion cooking pots and pans. Aluminium doors and windows are produced locally. Glass facades on the north and south facades are made of double glazed double low-e glass facade, this is one of the very few products that were imported from China. The main lobby area is completed with sculptures by an 85 years old German sculptor, Rita Widagdo. The sculptures were consulted and designed to respond to the architecture of DSN and the company identity as an agro industry specialist. The sculpture would not create a sculpture if she does not like the building, and that is what the architecture is trying to achieve.
