Nestled in the tranquil mountains of Sanyi, Taiwan, the building is surrounded by lush vegetation and breathtaking mountain scenery. During the design process, we focused on creating a space that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural environment. The client's vision was to create a private art museum nestled in the woods, where the natural landscape would serve as the main attraction, and the indoor art collection would complement it perfectly, like a precious gem in a jewel box. To ensure that the building did not detract from the artwork, we opted for a minimalist approach, constructing the building with a simple exposed concrete finish. The long and narrow layout of the building is oriented east-west, offering sweeping views of the southeast mountain range. The floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor extend almost the entire length of the building, allowing the surrounding mountain landscape to be seamlessly integrated into the interior space. The use of natural light and the understated concrete finish of the building serves as a backdrop for the artwork and furniture, bringing out their essential qualities. The more private living spaces on the first floor feature warm wooden flooring, continuing the minimalist design vocabulary of the building. The restrained interior design and the abundant white space create a sense of tranquility, allowing the muted gray tones of the interior to contrast and converse with the lush greenery outside, resulting in a peaceful and hidden gem nestled in the mountains.
