The client being a local businessperson who also owns a neighbouring 4-star hotel, the pavilion was conceived to address the need for a versatile venue that seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces. Traditional banquet halls were studied to discern contemporary preferences, leading to the realization of the importance of an enclosed space within an expansive setting. The glass pavilion embodies an architectural ethos grounded in simplicity, featuring clean lines and geometric shapes while prioritizing concepts of spatial flow and natural light. Functionally diverse, it serves as a reflection of transparency, with a pre-function area leading to a soaring 40-foot-high structure enveloped by glass on three sides and the roof, juxtaposed with a lawn grown on natural earth. The design blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior realms, allowing the pavilion to transition effortlessly from a climate-controlled enclosure to an open-air setting. Contextual considerations were paramount, with the structure's orientation strategically devised to mitigate the intense heat of Rajkot. The south-facing facade, anchored by the kitchen block, shields the interior while opening up vistas to the north lawn. At the entrance, a striking feature wall guides visitors into the pavilion, its terracotta hue exuding warmth while offering respite from the eastern sun. Within, sound-absorbing green plants, lawn and acoustic panels create an immersive environment, complemented by expansive glass walls that provide panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Designed with flexibility in mind, the pavilion accommodates diverse usage scenarios across seasons. In summer, it provides both air-conditioned indoor comfort and open-air options in evenings when the heat is comparatively low, while in winter, the HVAC system ensures optimal temperatures for indoor-outdoor gatherings. During the monsoon season, the glass-encased interior offers a unique sensory experience, blending the comforts of shelter with the ambiance of the natural environment. This architectural tomorrow not only fosters a harmonious relationship between human habitation and nature but also serves as a beacon of unique user experience.
