GRAVITY Fitness is not a mainstream fitness studio. Instead, it's an exclusive gym that offers a unique user experience by breaking down gender barriers for young professionals in Beijing's rising pre and post office workout routines. Situated in a newly built office tower close to the airport, GRAVITY Fitness is defined as a high-tech environment where the branding reflects the interior's mood, enhancing the overall concept of space and gravity. In the world of fitness, trends come and go, but one thing remains constant: Gravity. We're always working against gravity, and the stronger we become, the better we do, not just in the gym, but in life. In terms of design thinking, how could a broad concept like this be imaginatively realized? Design lead and anySCALE founder Andreas Thomczyk envisioned showing 'gravity' through hues of dark space colors, including shades of moon-grey and lunar-like surface textures. To achieve a sense of dynamic composition, a darker coloration scheme was chosen for the open training areas optimized for cardio, strength training, and flexibility. In contrast, the enclosed spaces were tinted with warm, light vanilla cream tones, and built with lower ceilings for sharper illumination and a more energetic feel. These areas focus on group training activities like yoga, spinning, and Pavigym. Thomczyk compares this artistic vision to a piece of fruit, where the outside is entirely different from the inside, often in color and texture. Adjustable neon lights create a vibrant atmosphere for some areas, like the Pavigym, where red, blue, and green colors fill the room. Finally, star-shaped lights evoke a feeling of being on a ship in outer space, reflecting off the grey-tinted aluminum wall padding, like a panoply of stars. In the hallways, halogen spotlights beam directly at the gym equipment, unlike mainstream gyms where light is evenly distributed. This approach aims to amaze and incite gym-goers as they train against gravity within a uniquely immersive fitness studio.
