The Hampden Apartments are a boutique collection of nine large-scale apartment residences on a tree-lined corner of Armadale, one of Melbourne’s most coveted addresses. Designed and delivered in-house, the building is crowned by a penthouse residence across the entire top floor. As designer, client and resident, every element of this penthouse was crafted to reflect not only his family's needs but also the philosophy of his integrated practice: intelligent architecture, healthy design, a tradition of craftsmanship and a deep connection with nature. As with the vision of the entire penthouse, the design goals were to use space, form, texture and technology to create a home that is, simply put, a joy to come home to. Faced with the global issue of population growth and lack of renewable resources, it is our responsibility to consider increased density residential solutions for our future. As such, the carefully conceived Hampden Apartments were created, the most sustainable building type housing many families within a comparatively small footprint of land. We believe these are the governing principles of a sustainable existence. In addition, this building design embodies the fundamental principles of sustainable design, such as; - Passive solar design and high-quality insulation reduce energy loads, with excess energy sold back to the grid. - Cross ventilation and heat exchanger technology maintain air quality. - Efficient A/C technology minimizes energy consumption. - Geothermal technology heats communal water systems. - Futureproofing includes upgrading apartments with technological advancements. - The owner’s corporation will support shared resources within the development including a share car and other communal facilities. As a natural evolution from sustainable buildings, wellness is increasingly being pursued to boost the health and wellbeing of its occupants.
