IN MOTION “Temporary Display for Concreta 2019 – Construction, Rehabilitation, Architecture and Design Fair” The Architect has the power to limit the construction impact of our unstable and constantly changing environment. The construction materials and construction itself represent half of CO2 world wide emissions. As a consequence of our carbon footprint, the rising levels of global warming are making our planet unhabitable through its floods, wildfires, drought, heatwaves or constant tornados. All OF this is not happening in the future, it’s already happening. It’s in our hands to reduce, recycle and reuse in order not to reach irreversible levels on our planet. With this project we want to show that it’s possible to make architecture, reusing natural and recyclable materials. There is no point in having a firm, convenient and mesmerizing building, if we have nothing to “drink, or breathe”. * Architects have the power to change. We all do. “Architects need to respond to climate change by being more versatile” as said by Moshe Safdie. We can prevent major CO2 emissions by changing to less wasteful, more recycled materials. Regarding all this information we were inspired to create 5 movable spaces that would be built on site, during the fair, with recycled, recyclable or reusing materials. Inspired by and based in the 5 major events that keep occurring because of climate changes. This particular module, is inspired by the graphics of the heatwaves, embodied through the rhythmic sequence of OSB panels attached to each other, creating permeability on different levels of usage and light/shadow effects through the cut. The choice of material was essential, not only it is a recyclable material as it also convey the warm feel that wood passes on. The fact that it’s built on a platform with wheels allows the possibility to be used for different uses in different spaces, allowing the project to be kept in motion. Thought to be an office or a seating area or a sleeping open pod, that can be put anywhere and everywhere. This IN MOTION prototype was built during CONCRETA 2019 and is currently used as an office in an open park. An experimental future project since it was and is a whole new way of thinking and adapting space. * Christine Murray "It's time for architects to choose ethics over aesthetics".
