Jatobá House

Located in Fazenda Boa Vista, a luxury residential condominium in the countryside of São Paulo state, the Jatobá House stands with its simple lines and imposing volumes surrounded by the Atlantic Forest. This holiday house proposes a more organic, playful, healthy and sustainable way of life. It runs on photovoltaic energy, and the beautiful ponds scattered throughout the grounds also act as rainwater retardant ponds. The project's conception follows a fragmented, block resting over the plot of land. The five large white cubic blocks that characterise the house are independent functioning suites, which are integrated through open and luminous hallways, living room and varanda. The infrastructures were manufactured with CLT (Cross Laminated Timber), substituting concrete for raw wood. A large wall made of rammed earth, made with sand and earth from the site itself, surrounds the entire house as well as the floor, coated with basalt shards. All accommodations — including the leisure areas equipped with a sauna, a spa, and a three-level swimming pool with a beautiful scupper — set view to the surrounding nature. The furniture design is mostly authorial including tables, chairs, some armchairs and fireplace. Other pieces from great Brazilian designers such as Zeca and Vivi armchairs — by Zanine Caldas and Sérgio Rodrigues, respectively — as well as artwork handcrafted by native indigenous people were selected to create unique compositions, matching the project's raw colors and materials, such as rustic wood, earthen bricks, and seamless structural block walls. Through the Jatobá Film, spectators are invited to walk through the house and submerge into disconnection in nature’s simplest form.Every single take was delicately handpicked and rhythmically set a tempo with the soundtrack, which is executed with both traditional folk and modern instruments, expressing Jatobás’ finest temper.
