MEIXIN TOWER REGENERATION

Architectural Regeneration Scheme Situated on the historical bank of the Suzhou River with rich industrial heritage and city memories, Meixin Tower will be a community anchor in one of Shanghai’s core business and cultural areas, Huangpu District. Planned to be the future SOHO area of Shanghai, the renewal urban context target is to create an area integrating culture, industry, fashion, and residence into a juxtaposition, which will be an ideal destination for business travellers taking advantage of its convenient public transportation. As an architectural regeneration scheme the project aims to become one of the most iconic urban landmarks that provides a 27,395 sqm mix-used program of commercial, serviced apartments and offices to the residents of the financial centre in China. It covers a construction area of 2843 sqm, including 23 floors above grade and two below. The client, Shenergy Group, was the first public energy provider in the city of Shanghai from 1882 after the British colonial established the first gas house in 1865. The project proposes an innovative façade system integrated exoskeleton structure and curtain wall through a precisely controlled form-finding process to reminiscent its historical significance symbolically while employing the latest structural possibility. Deeply influenced by European architectural forms during its colonial period, “Shikumen” with arches has formed a unique historical architectural style in Shanghai. Located in the historical architectural style protection area along Suzhou River, the podium of the project inherits this natural historical gene from its surrounding urban context. Utilisation of arches on the podium levels echoes the surroundings historic buildings, while provides a popular public realm for the users. Via reshaping the tower top into a public space combined with a viewing gallery, a fine dining restaurant and an executive club, Meixin provides an exceptional 360-degree cityscape to attract more visitors.
