Next Hub

To create a destination that offers a quality social experience and redefine the image of a mixed use complex in Jeddah, while respecting the climate requirements and cultural needs dictated by Arab traditions, were the main design challenges. Next Hub is an architecture and landscape integrated design project that blends in different activities and facilities including hospitality, administration, entertainment, retail, f&b as well as recreational zones. The conceptual idea was to explore the architecture relation between solid and void, through a dynamic composition of masses and courts that creates a dialogue between internal and external spaces, to enjoy natural daylight and landscape views all throughout the year. The architecture composition was designed diagonally based on two main aspects: Functional, increasing the street frontage visibility of the main restaurants & Environmental, respecting the sun and good wind direction; To create internal views, dynamic skyline and urban-like experience, the masses were arranged in a way to enclose the main central plaza which also helped in creating a welcoming approach for pedestrians. The user experience has been further improved by transforming the f&b rooftops into livable terraces, helping to increase the dynamic use of recreational public spaces while giving the user a sense of enclosure and protection, where especially children can play freely. Inspired by Arabic traditional architecture, the hotel and administration buildings were designed with internal courts to bring in natural ventilation and sunlight along with the visual & social interaction, creating unique experience. The project facade design direction based on dark glass, metal louvers and solid walls to achieve an interesting relation between transparent, semi-transparent and opaque surfaces while maintaining a modern and simple design style.
