PAB House

Indaiatuba

Located in Indaiatuba, in the countryside of São Paulo, PAB House sits on a plot bordered by preserved native vegetation—an environmental context that called for a sensitive and integrated architectural approach. The house was designed as a retreat that embraces the calm and coziness of the countryside while responding to the contemporary needs of its residents. The house is laid out in an “L” shape with horizontal lines, allowing it to blend gently into the terrain, respecting the natural rhythm of the landscape and minimizing visual impact. This layout directs the main views towards a large green reserve at the back of the lot—an environmental preservation area that guided the entire design strategy. The house feels sheltered by this vegetation, and the organically shaped pool reinforces this relationship, as if embraced by the existing greenery. The residence is composed of two distinct but complementary volumes. The first, more solid and reserved, houses the private areas, ensuring comfort and privacy. The second, open and fluid, contains the social spaces, with wide openings that foster a continuous connection with the outdoors, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. The dialogue between these volumes creates a rich spatiality where nature flows through the spaces. On the street-facing façade, narrow vertical openings ensure natural ventilation and light while maintaining privacy. The upper volume reinterprets the traditional house gable with a contemporary approach. Resting on a more solid and sober base, the composition is balanced and refined. The use of a metal roof, replacing conventional tiles, reinforces the updated architectural language while preserving the emotional connection to the archetype of the traditional house. Natural materials such as rough wood furniture, organic-shaped stone flooring, and integrated vegetation contrast with orthogonal elements like the pergola and the gabled roof. This combination creates a welcoming atmosphere, full of textures, memories, and sensations. The house is also built through the layering of objects and stories—furniture and elements that reveal the passage of time and the richness of lived experience. The more solid block features uniformly paginated openings, offering rhythm and lightness to the façade. A subtle groove marks the division between the two floors, bringing visual proportion and highlighting the coexistence of two volumes within the same architectural composition. PAB House results from an architecture that respects its setting, values simplicity, and celebrates the interplay between landscape and memory. It is a home that embraces, protects, and opens itself to its surroundings—embodying a life balanced between the natural and the built, between the past and the present.
