Pink Palace

The Pink Palace project brought new life to a previously dilapidated residential villa perched on a main arterial route by extending and repurposing it for workspaces. This retrofit reimagines what office space could be – inviting, playful and interactive, blurring indoors and outdoors, and encompassing diverse and flexible boutique workspaces. Each space has its distinct characteristics, from hammock ceilings to rooftop gardens. Innovation was essential to balance heritage building constraints with evolving this prominent building into functional spaces that lift the spirits of its inhabitants and the local community. New is separated from old with a generous common space stairway with natural elements that invites pause, reflection, and connection. The building’s living landscape promotes wellbeing, provides soakage, and supports biodiversity, insect life and pollination. Objectifying the existing villa celebrates its history. Juxtaposition of the glazed basement surface inserted underneath and the timber villa weatherboard above elevates the contrast, enabling historical to be celebrated through contemporary forms, technologies, and materials.
