ROBINSON HOUSE Where El Sunzal’s surf meets the sky, we encountered a challenge with our clients: reconciling his Swiss Family Robinson fantasy with her vision of a garden that fully integrates with the architecture. Without grand trees on site to fulfill these dreams, we had to create our own. The Robinson House reveals itself gradually. Emerging from the coastal landscape like a natural formation, the structure begins as a solid base that guides visitors upward through sculpted spaces. Each level frames glimpses of the Pacific horizon, culminating in bold cantilevered elements that provide both shelter and visual impact. Moving through the house feels like exploring a living organism, from roots to crown. The architecture creates its own microclimate; ventilation channels capture prevailing winds, while overhanging elements cast precise shadows to cool the spaces below. Rather than resisting the coastal environment, the design moves with it. This is a home that unfolds with time. First, it takes root. a compact structure offering shelter and stability, a space to observe and listen before expanding outward. Then, it grows, branching into the full vision, a home that embraces the landscape and the life within it. And finally, as seasons shift, it settles into itself; adaptable, generous, a place to retreat, to welcome, to continue evolving. This isn’t architecture that shouts for attention; it invites you in, rewarding you with something new each time. Like the land it belongs to, the house unfolds in layers, revealing itself over time. In weaving his dream, her garden vision, and the site’s quiet wisdom, we didn’t just build. We cultivated. Robinson House doesn’t impose itself on the land. It grows from it.
