SANTA ROSA

CIUDAD MENDOZA

The Santa Rosa project is a renovation of a textile factory, preserving a part of its structure for its historical, architectural and urban significance, creating a new urban center that equips and concentrates retail, recreational and residential activities in Ciudad Mendoza, Veracruz. The factory develops within a property of 10.7 hectares, sheltered from the urban surroundings by a perimeter wall. The two-phased intervention seeks to conserve the spirit of the factory, built between 1899 and 1918. An internal pedestrian street inserts between the pre-existing buildings that are now retail spaces. An arch-roofed warehouse is reused to create a generous space for recreational and cultural activities. The metal columns are recycled and used as lamps and pergolas. The factory walls have been cleaned through signs of factory wear and tear, and preserved for the record. The project incorporates trees, vegetation and outdoor furniture.
