Shanghai Songjiang Incity

Shanghai Songjiang Incity located in Shanghai Songjiang New Town, over 34 km away from downtown without metro connection, the 100,000 m2 Songjiang Incity posed a great challenge for the designers. Targeted at trendsetters and college students, the designers proposed the core design concept of establishing a dialogue between 2D world (ACG) and the 3D world ( real world). After the completion of the project, The project has succeeded in creating a vibrant public space for young people and a more active and free place for different clientele to have exclusive experiences. Based on the archaeological findings of the three levels of the Shanghai Guangfulin Cultural Site, Inspired by the 'layer show', the designers have sliced the building and introduced visitors to the space through a unique approach of multiple first floors. This is combined with the concept of leasing to create a different commercial space experience. The façade design is intended to combine historical and cultural phenomena with the commercial concept of the project, reproducing perfectly the traces of the deposited rocks and historical profiles on the façade of the building. A sharp, rich, flowing image is created through the changing layers of three different colours and materials. The building form is closely integrated with the outdoor space, The interplay of the natural plaza of the urban plaza dissolves the thickness of the building volume, and the S-shaped movement line is reasonably planned to improve the overall efficiency of the plan, and to cater to the different directions of the two major customer groups, bringing a dual experience. The urban plaza, which meets the Olympic standards for holding skateboarding events, underlines and responds to the design intent of a trendy place for the young, as an active outdoor space for young trendsetters’ social contacts and recreations. Nature plaza is a vibrant public open space. It creates a playground for children with a sense of fun and fantasy, and allows shoppers to get in touch with nature in a commercial atmosphere. The south and north atria with distinctive vibe of 2D world and the 3D world are photogenic spots for social media. The CUEA (China University E-sports Association) held in the South Atrium on the opening day received 130 million clicks on TikTok. This project not only creates a public space within the site, it also introduces the world's only 10-metre tall 'Pikachu' sculpture above the main entrance of the building, created exclusively by The Pokémon Company for the project, creating a huge visual impact and attracting 260,000 visitors on the opening day. Opened on November 21, 2021, Songjiang Incity recorded a remarkable business turnover of RMB 130 million yuan, or 18 million euros within two weeks after its opening. The project has also successfully passed the international LEED Gold pre-certification for green buildings. Through the integrated design of architecture, interior and landscape, ECE has successfully created a young trendy place of "culture + sports + Commercial" by integrating the concept of "layers" throughout the whole design.
