Shibuya PARCO HULIC building

Shibuya, Tokyo

This project is to rebuild Shibuya PARCO, which has been developing as PARCO's flagship store, creating a culture along with the city of Shibuya since the 1970s. In addition to stores and theaters, the complex will be reborn as a new complex with an office. This project is a case study of an approximately 100-meter-tall complex facility building constructed in this district. Prior to building a skyscraper in such a high-density town, we were afraid that a general method in which vacant land is provided at the foot of the building, where volumes are stacked vertically, would weaken the relations between the building and the surroundings in the town, and challenged ourselves to making the building a part of the town under the theme of how to relate the liveliness of the town to the building. Architectural concept "Vertical Street made by the gap of gems which is shining in the next generation": Shibuya's characteristic "slope" and "street" and the city's neighborhood are incorporated into the outer periphery of the building as “Vertical Street”, and the flow and bustle of Shibuya are planned as a migratry line that leads directly to the building. “Vertical Street” is planned as a new street from the ground to the rooftop park, as it weaves between the accumulation of white boulders inspired by the next generation of talented young people who are responsible for Shibuya's culture. Unique shops, cafes, event spaces, co-working offices, entertainment facilities such as theaters, etc. are situated along the streets, integrating the complex facilities.
