SIERRA HOUSE

Kyiv

The story of Sierra House is one of synergy. Having started as a request for interior renovation it grew into creative flow, resulting in a complete interior and architectural renewal of the house allowing for the new vision. At the heart of the Sierra House’s design is a fearless exploration of modern minimalism. Defined by sharp cubic forms, clean lines, and the interplay of contrasting materials, the architecture exudes strength and confidence. The bold fusion of basalt, corten steel, and glass creates a robust yet fluid structure that harmonizes with its natural environment. By celebrating textures and materials in their raw state, the design transcends functionality to become a statement of artistic sophistication. The layout of the Sierra House is defined by its thoughtful response to the site’s topographical features. The residence is spread across three levels complementing natural levels of surrounding. The basement floor serves as a technical and utility zone for the staff, ensuring discretion and functionality. The main level opens to shared living spaces, including the kitchen and lounge, arranged to maximize openness and connection to the outdoors. On the third floor, private bedrooms provide tranquil retreats with sweeping views of the landscape. The building uses locally sourced basalt, a volcanic stone from Lutsk, Ukraine, for approximately 30% of the facade. This material is not only durable but also minimizes transportation-related emissions. The unique textures and finishes of basalt give the structure a raw elegance, creating dramatic interactions with sunlight and shadow throughout the day. A distinctive feature of the design is its extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass walls, which dissolve the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces. The transparency allows natural light to flood the interiors, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadows throughout the day. Further enhancing the connection to nature, spacious terraces extend from the house, offering areas for relaxation and sociability. From the ultra-slim glass partitions that retain transparency without visual clutter to the custom detailing of basalt cladding, every element was executed to match the YODEZEEN’s exacting standards.
