Skyfall villa

Denpasar

Architecture at the Edge of the Horizon Skyfall is a private residence perched on the edge of a cliff. More than a home, it is an architectural experience — a place where spatial perception is redefined as open and free. The central idea was to create a panoramic environment with unobstructed views. We sought a location where the boundary between interior and exterior could dissolve entirely. The result was a dramatic site: a 90-meter limestone cliff in Uluwatu, offering a 180° view across southern Bali. This rare vantage point is uninterrupted — just sky, water, and landform. Yet the site was inherently unstable: a crumbling limestone edge, vulnerable to wind and water erosion. Rather than adapting to it, we transformed it. The cliff was reinforced, retaining walls were built, terraced platforms sculpted, and a new landscape plateau was formed. Ninety percent of the original vegetation will be replanted, and the grounds enhanced with climate-resilient trees and shrubs. To achieve the concept of an infinite horizon, we developed a series of structural innovations: • No columns in the primary façade zone, made possible by cantilevered slabs and structural components bearing up to 2,500 tons. • Floor-to-ceiling glazing in all main rooms, reinforcing the sense of infinite space. • Two separate wings offer individual vistas and enhanced privacy. • Every key space — the living area, master suite, kitchen, and meditation zone — is positioned to frame the view, with angled glazing adding depth. • Horizontal slabs act as sunshades, softening light without compromising visual clarity. The interior architecture echoes the landscape. Its forms are fluid, soft, and light, extending the natural surroundings into the house. Curved partitions, wall “petals,” and rounded furniture elements recall Bali’s waves, winds, and slopes. The palette is restrained — neutral tones, open sightlines, and layered transparencies. Skyfall unfolds over three levels. The ground floor is open and communal — a living area, bar, show kitchen, and a meditation space inspired by the four elements. The second floor is dedicated to rest, with five bedrooms and private terraces. The master suite, with its 180-degree glazing and no supporting columns, becomes a private amphitheater — a room where nature performs. The third level is carved into the rock, housing the gym, cinema, and service areas. Skyfall is grounded in sustainability: • Restoration of the site’s ecosystem and topography. • Energy-efficient façades with Low-E glass. • Smart climate and ventilation systems using CO₂ and humidity sensors. • A unified KNX platform managing lighting, climate, and security. • Structural resilience to earthquakes and extreme wind loads. Skyfall Villa is architecture that does not merely shape space — it shapes emotion.
