Master Plan For Next Generation The goal of the Somang Church master plan is “A church where all members can actively harmonize, a beautiful church for the next generation, and a church where they can communicate with the world.” To create a church of harmony, problems in church arrangements were identified and resolved. The existing central space of Somang Church was developed in a poor environment where people and vehicles were mixed along a narrow road. This was resolved by shifting the central space to the front yard of the main hall and transforming the existing parking lot into a park where both church members and non- members can harmonize. In order to design a beautiful church, the identity of Somang Church was then defined, and unity was formed so that the campus could be seen as a whole. Over the past 50 years, the church has only pursued functional expansion due to the necessity that a complicated landscape has grown. This has been unified into a single granite material which can be produced in various ways depending on the processing method. By utilizing this, the independence of individual buildings was secured and at the same time a new landscape was formed that connected the entire campus as one. Lastly, in order to create a church of communication, the existing irrational worship system was improved and new spaces were created that fit the new trend of the times. In particular, in the new building, an educational space for future generations and a healing space for the silver generation were integrated to create a space where all generations can mingle together. Matthew 11:28 says, “ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” We hope that the Somang Church master plan will not be a restricted church only for registered members, but an open church that welcomes non-members as well.
