Romania’s natural beauty and strategic location as a gateway between the West and the East make it a desirable destination for tourists and a hub for business. The country’s architecture, traditions, and folklore reflect its rich history and culture. The diverse terrain, from the Carpathian peaks to the Danube Delta and the Black Sea coast, contributes to the stunning landscapes and variety of flora and fauna. Our concept for a high-end facility in Sinaia’s mountainous retreat, nestled in the Valley of the Prahova River, is designed to invigorate the area and create a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for visitors. The challenge in achieving the design concept was finding a proper technical solution to build on an old rock quarry while accomplishing a seamless blend into the natural highlands landscape. The building rises above an old rock quarry, with no underground levels, built to mimic and embrace the surrounding nature and. Four voids simulate the forest clearings, two of which pierce throughout the entire building. One over the main lobby and another, a void that brings nature inside and serves as a gathering spot for visitors. The elevated pool water level above the foliage exposes breathtaking views of the stunning mountainous landscape - a trademark of Sinaia. The structural columns grid follow the tree trunks, blending the building seamlessly into the natural surroundings. This effect is also sustained by a mesh designed to resemble forest camouflage. The blue shade of the glass elements adds to the integrating effect by accentuating the sky reflection. We pulled back the facade from the steep mountainside, following the shape of the terrain, to create a cohesive, organic aesthetic. The functional layout has been carefully planned over four levels, ensuring privacy and tranquillity for each facility while presenting all guests with a stunning view of the surrounding area. The design offers a wide range of facilities, including a semi-Olympic swimming pool, indoor-outdoor pool, cantilevered infinity edge exterior pool, kid’s pool with water features, physical therapy facilities, massage, various spa and sauna areas, relaxation zones and lounges, sanitary facilities, as well as restaurants and many other features. Our facilities cater to both leisure and health, appealing to all ages. Aesthetics, functionality, and design quality are at the core of our design philosophy, done with the understanding of the impact in the construction and lifetime of a building we are aiming for zero CO2 emissions. Therefore a high-quality building is essential when proposing an environment-conscious building. We designed with sustainability in mind, therefore in addition to natural light and ventilation throughout the building and using locally sourced sustainable materials, we complemented the design with a green energy efficient HVAC system through hydrogen-ready cogeneration systems and heat pumps. The project includes specific IIoT installations for energy efficiency management and integrated operational and maintenance management on the digital twin platform.
