The Onyx Tower

The Onyx Tower Recent times and events have triggered and highlighted the need to create new atmospheres for the workspace. It is clear that we are more productive when working together, not only mentally but also physically. However, we must also recognize that the recent pandemic accelerated this trend and exposed new space requirements, such as privacy, hygiene, and air quality among other factors. Today, it is essential to design spaces that are not only better lit and ventilated but also enriched with more engaging programs. The clear goal is to attract people back to their workplaces and foster creativity, efficiency, and the spontaneity that can only be achieved when groups of people work together in person. The Onyx Tower, as a LEED Platinum high-rise, seeks to address these concerns while integrating itself into an existing office building campus known as the “O Towers”. Its façade is subdivided into alternating modular sections of its preceding towers. These movements provide opportunities for creating open terraces, enhancing interior-exterior connections and generating natural light and shadow play while giving the building’s envelope a new sense of drama. Its juxtaposition within the site plays an important role in the organizational scheme of the project; for it becomes the central node for all open spaces. This language of movement and transition is echoed throughout the tower’s site and campus. The different building scales and the open spaces of green landscapes flow together from every angle of the site; arranged as a symphony of volumes. This relationship creates striking and contrasting visual connections that can be experienced differently as we move across the site. These open spaces are the connecting points that enable us to seamlessly transition between public and private spaces, indoor and outdoor environments, and covered and open areas. They inspire and create opportunities for relaxation, social interaction, and creativity, while promoting well-being and sustainability. Ultimately, they are the most defining aspects of the design, transforming the “O Towers” urban landscape into a living, dynamic environment.
