The Ribbon House Location - Mohali (Punjab) India. Plot Area- 3713 sq ft Total covered area- 8058.35 sq ft (inclusive all floors) The Ribbon House was envisioned as a reflection of the owner’s skill and perseverance in the construction industry. We wanted to inscribe the story of how Mr. Ravijeet Singh built his life into the building of his abode. As one enters this northeast-facing plot, they are greeted by a garden, which leads through the entrance porch into the family room, which features a state-of-the-art staircase, sculpted in place and supported by tensile cables. A courtyard slumbers in the background of this space, connecting nature with the interiors. To emphasise the distinctive elements that make the spaces stand out, the interiors are serene with minimalist décor. The bedrooms on each floor have been composed of spacious walk-in closets and thoughtfully carved balconies enveloped in the facade's soft folds. The curved elements of the built envelope were cast in situ with concrete and were initially conceived for shading but later went on to evolve into high and mighty forms that seem as though they are protecting the building and its inhabitants. The elements are designed in such a way that they seem to sprout from the ground up and accentuate the verticality of the house. The movement the eye would follow is deceived by the sheer height of these forms, and the onlooker is tricked into believing that the house is taller than it really is. The superior volume of the structure has been broken down into more slender curves that allow abundant sunlight to enter the structure. They also facilitate adequate airflow and ventilation. Having built varied projects of differing scales and proportions, Mr. Ravijeet sought to challenge himself further by building a house that would serve as a reminder of his potential and erudition in his field of work. The challenge with this one-of-a-kind structure for us was to translate it into tangible drawings that could be understood and perceived by the site team in order to have a seamless execution process. It took us three years and four different projects before this residence, which involved the creative use of concrete, to take up this challenge. The house is a prime illustration of how experimenting with a material can yield unexpected results. "The Ribbon House" is an artistic endeavour seeking to produce a place that embodies the material honesty of concrete and explores its diversity in use and construction. The Ribbon House is a beacon of inspiration for our team to persevere, preserve, and create excellence with each new challenge.
