Urban Cocoon Introduction: In the bustling metropolis of Metro Manila, a challenging 150 sqm renovation project has emerged, transforming a conventional condominium into a visionary living space that seamlessly blends industrial design with the richness of local culture. With a limited time to renovate and the clients, who are a couple, desire to live in the condo immediately after the turnover of the newly constructed building can be an exciting yet challenging endeavor. This design features a unique fusion of contemporary trends and Filipino artistry, resulting in a harmonious and vibrant home. Redefining Spaces: Embracing Openness and Collaboration The designers recognized the potential for an open-plan layout, liberating the condominium from its conventional constraints while showcasing the exterior curved windows. They decided to remove unnecessary walls and created a sense of spaciousness that allows seamless movement between different areas. The open kitchen concept encourages social interaction and enhances the flow of energy within the space. Infusing Local Materials and Artistry: To celebrate Filipino artistry and pay homage to the local culture, the designers sourced materials and furnishings from local artisans.Commissioned paintings from Filipino artists adorn the walls, infusing the space with a distinctive sense of local artistry and cultural pride. The result is a cocoon that tells a story. Technological Integration for Modern Living: Embracing modern trends, the condominium is fully automated, offering the ultimate convenience at the touch of a button. Lighting, smart glass, sound systems, and blinds can be controlled through smartphones, providing a seamless and immersive living experience. Balancing Work and Play: Recognizing the evolving work dynamics post-COVID, the design team transformed one of the bedrooms into a functional home office. This strategic adaptation to the hybrid work-from-home setup highlights the condominium's versatility and relevance in the current times. By creating a dedicated workspace within the living environment, the design promotes a healthy work-play balance, enhancing productivity and relaxation in equal measure. Curated Overtime: A Home for Work, Play, and Rest: Central to the design philosophy of the renovated condominium is the idea of creating a curated space that evolves over time. The designers sought to craft a home that invites its inhabitants to work, play, and rest harmoniously. The carefully selected industrial elements, infused with vibrant colors and patterns, breathe new life into the space, challenging the traditional muted tones associated with industrial design. Transforming a house into a home goes beyond aesthetics and functionality. It involves infusing the space with personal touches of the clients unique personalities that creates a sense of belonging; displayed treasured memories, incorporated personal artworks from the owners, friends and family. Collaborating closely with the clients, who are pet owners, the designers ensured that the condominium was welcoming and comfortable for their pets. This thoughtful integration of pet-friendly features showcases the condominium's inclusivity and commitment to the clients' unique lifestyle.
