This project was won through an international architecture competition. The brief called for the construction of two mixed-use towers in the Viertel Zwei district of Vienna, which has undergone significant and vibrant urban development in recent years. The design team has devised two towers with heterogeneous architectural languages and marked personalities, which nonetheless blend organically with the context. The towers reach to a height of 120 m and 90 m. Both buildings offer high quality spaces to live and work. The lower tower, for residential use, has been conceived as a vertical extension of the existing area and of Prater Park, with the aim of establishing visual continuity between nature and built space. The second tower will be an iconic building, designed to emerge from its context, characterised by an organic and tapered geometry that enhances its verticality. On an urban scale, the towers are a key element in the urban revitalisation of the district. They exemplifies an innovative residential model, and are unique in their energy efficiency, spatial configuration and environmental quality. From an architectural perspective, the towers demonstrate high standards of internal typological distribution, creating an innovative and flexible office model. Following the same principles, the apartments have been positioned to offer protection from strong winds, and with large terraces that create a series of both winter and summer gardens, high quality conditions are guaranteed all year round. Accommodating work spaces and services, the layout of the floors and the façade system have been designed to optimise the access of natural light inside the rooms, at the same time minimising glare and overheating.
