The idea for Bosch Workspace and Learning campus is conceived around the discreet yet irrefutable cultural overlaps between the nations of India and Germany. Both nations have spawned unique and iconic architectural movements, with rich cultural traditions & ideologies that have been kept alive for centuries. Philosophers hailing from both also share a similar school of thought regarding the way of life and meaning of existence – often borrowing ideas from one another to create one cohesive working understanding of the ethos of life. Building on this, the Bosch Learning Campus aimed to marry the deep symbolism of Indian art & craft into the Germanic underpinnings of contemporary modern architecture. “The integrity of my promises, the belief in the value of my products and of my word of honor have always had a higher priority to me than a transitory profit.” - Robert Bosch The planning strategies incorporated into the design prioritize a direct connection to nature from all spaces, with the seminar spaces overlooking the lush landscapes of the courtyard and the dining pavilion. Internally, the group discussions zones and courtyards are interspersed between the training and seminar spaces to create spontaneous breakout zones that encourage cohesive collaboration among members of different teams. Vertically, the building’s zoning takes upon the concept of Vedic chakras that are derived from the Upanishads. These speak of the seven chakras which are representative of the seven energy centers in the human body. A chakra is an element of consciousness that connects the human soul to the eternal energy of the Universe, with each chakra being associated with a particular color – thereby lending the levels a graphical flair whilst also creating a sense of subconscious wayfinding. Arrival at learning campus is announced by the Saraswati Mandala at the reception. Vedic Mandalas are traditionally graphic, mystic symbols of creation – that signify the dramatic experience of the human condition as one seeks his or her sense of purpose, role and meaning. Their placements as a backdrop to the reception as well as the ceiling help resonate positive energies and elevate the entrance space spiritually. The interior design for the lounges is worked out with the ever-changing demands of a collaborative working environment in mind. This has given rise to a variety of flexible configurations – best suited to the collaborative discussion spaces, allowing for the space to be functionally viable over a sustainably longer period of time. The proposal for the seminar rooms is a composition of modern Indian design infused with ethnic art forms derived from the traditional arts from the diverse states of India. The beauty of Indian decorative heritage is interpreted through the contemporary arts, with each state being represented by a single iconic statement – realized in artworks that accentuate these spaces. This creates an environment for healthy equitable communication where everyone at the table has a voice and is represented on an equal platform.
