YASHOBHOOMI India International Convention Center

Dwarka

The IICC is the largest exhibition center in India and South Asia. Conceived as an anchor project for the country's future development and strategically located between New Delhi and Gurgaon, the complex covers more than 90 hectares and includes multiple buildings, most notably the Convention Center. The complex is presented as an icon symbolizing the image of the new India, a destination in itself that must be flexible enough to host world-class events and celebrations of the most diverse nature, such as the celebration of the 75th anniversary of India's independence, the G20 multilateral conferences or any event on the international trade fair and convention circuit. The contemporary reinterpretation of the idea of the palace, as a historical typology, is the main conceptual reference of the project, allowing the Yashobhoomi Convention Center to connect with the architectural tradition of India. Both the exterior and the interior of the building reflect very diverse motifs and iconographies related to the rites of greeting and welcome -especially mandalas and rangolis-, typical of the vast popular culture of the subcontinent. The design of the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre develops its 80,000 m² on 12 levels, which represents a challenge for a building of this typology. The program includes 13 flexible convention halls of different sizes (from 100 to 1,200sqm) and a large 3,800 m² hall on the upper floor equipped each of them with interpreter booths, control room, waiting room & storage. The rangolis, drawings that are usually painted on the floors and doors of homes as a sign of welcome, inspire the geometries of the ceilings, which are made up of sound-absorbing polyurethane foam cylinders of different lengths that in turn integrate the lighting fixtures, detectors and various technical equipment. The building also houses a multipurpose auditorium with a capacity for 6,000 attendees, designed to accommodate a variety of events and adapt to their technical requirements, this flexible space is equipped with retractable acoustic partitions that divide the room into two independent auditoriums and automated retractable platforms that allow for more than nine different configurations depending on the audience and type of event. From the technological point of view, the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre is a forefront project showing the technological advances that India can offer to the world. Besides its technological system that allow the operation of the building, the technological infrastructure also includes a LED screens that crowns the Convention Centre being particularly noteworthy due to its size and location, and allowing messages, advertisements and multimedia content to be transmitted on a territorial scale, becoming one of the most important icons of the complex.
