Visitor Guide

Visitor Tip

Book online well ahead — it sells out. The interior exhibitions are as impressive as the exterior. Visit after dark when the Arabic calligraphy illuminates.

Best Photo Spot

From the elevated metro platform at Emirates Towers station. At night, the LED-illuminated calligraphy quotes are spectacular against the torus form.

Access & Hours

Open daily. Timed tickets online — book well ahead. The exhibitions are immersive and take 2+ hours to experience fully.

Insider Note

The Arabic calligraphy carved into the stainless steel façade is poetry by Sheikh Mohammed about the future. The elliptical void in the center represents unknown knowledge. The structure uses no internal columns — the exoskeleton diagrid carries all loads.

Design & Structure

DiagridDouble-CurvedParametric Surface
Computational Process

Killa Design and BuroHappold Engineering used parametric tools to rationalize the torus geometry into a buildable diagrid. The façade calligraphy windows are laser-cut from stainless steel panels — each is unique, designed using custom algorithms that map text to structural openings.

Materiality

Stainless steel exterior panels with laser-cut calligraphy windows, diagrid steel structure, glass fiber reinforced concrete interior. The 1,024 calligraphy panels were individually CNC-cut and robotically welded.

Structural Innovation

The diagrid exoskeleton allows the building to be column-free inside. The torus form is inherently structurally efficient — forces distribute around the ring rather than concentrating at points.
