Visitor Guide

Visitor Tip

Right now, treat this as a waterfront walk: start at Bay East Garden’s promenade, face back toward the skyline, and use the construction perimeter as a framing device rather than an obstacle.

Best Photo Spot

Bay East Garden waterfront promenade (Marina East), looking west toward the city; blue hour (15–25 minutes after sunset) for a clean skyline silhouette behind the site.

Access & Hours

Not open yet (under development). You can’t enter the memorial site, but Bay East Garden and the Marina Barrage area are free and accessible as public parkland and viewpoints.

Insider Note

Kengo Kuma’s memorial language tends to ‘dissolve’ objects into field conditions—expect craft-like repetition and layered thresholds rather than a single iconic gesture.

Time Needed

20–40 min (as a walk-and-photograph stop)

Design & Structure

Branching / DendriticFreeformParametric Surface
Computational Process

A landscape-first memorial concept: the architectural figure is designed to read as a porous pavilion system rather than a closed building, using repetition and curvature to choreograph approach, pause, and collective gathering.

Materiality

Likely a restrained palette (stone, timber/metal shading elements, and tactile paving) tuned for heat and humidity—materials that age gracefully and read well in glare.

Structural Innovation

The engineering ‘trick’ will be making openness feel inevitable: long-span canopy elements, slender supports, and wind-stable detailing that still reads light.
