Al Wasel Nursey

Al Wasel nursery Education is all about exploration and discoveries. This building is intended to trigger curiosity in kids’ minds during the day and adults during late evening. We grow up by living unique experiences and acquiring unearthing new abilities. The architecture is inspired by the old “Bedouin” style tents, and the “Barjeel” which is an architectonic cooling ventilation system used in the warm summer months. By the playful entrance area on the ground floor, you will see a tall swing, attached to a 7m high beam above a mesh like trampoline floor. This will definitely awaken the kids and the parents in the early morning. The kids’ classrooms are located in the open sky basement. The parents can see the activities from the bridge above and feel included. All classrooms can be connected and open to the outdoor. On the ground floor, we have a large tent-like structure. This is the play area. The tent acts like a sun shader and it has water skin that collects dust from the air. It will help in cooling the air inside. Part of the nursery is a kids farming area. This will introduce the kids to learning and taking care of the plants in early stage of life. On the open park side of the project, instead of a boring straight cycling path that passes by the site, we have twisted the path in a zigzag style to pass into the property. It will cross through the building, passing by a kids oasis, underneath a light shading device and exit by the public cycling path. A sweet and short time into childhood. The Program The lower level consists of 4 classrooms, nursery, open dining area, offices, and service facilities. Learning spaces are designed around a central courtyard. Folding partition walls for space division makes the layout flexible and open. Natural daylight was a major factor in the design of the project as the main spaces are sunken into the ground. Two long courtyards hug the building on both sides allowing the maximum exposure to sunlight while providing shadow and privacy. The exterior space becomes an extension of the interior.
