As a children-oriented shopping arcade “Donut Playhouse”, the principle naturally is to create a new world from kid’s eyes; an approach tends to be abstract. “Kidscapes” is created, a separate but connected retails and explorative hub for kids to learn and play. We have introduced “Edu-shopping” to life by disrupting traditional shopping arcade. The “Donut Playhouse” consists of three zones: Body, Mind and Soul. Not only shopping, but enhancing kid’s physical, mental and spiritual quality. From the simple perspective of a kid, colour psychology is applied into spaces to encourage the kids own development, different purposes are given: Body Zone for dynamics, Mind Zone for learning, and Soul Zone for interacting. First of its kind in a mall, Seating, concierge, signages are all catered for children, designed for easy access of children height level; “Co-wee-wee” restroom is specially designed for children. Bringing back a feel of school, perhaps kindergarten, it strengthens the sense of learning while giving an autonomy to children themselves. Body: active and physical The Body zone, a play area, aims to unleash energy where the space emphasizes physical training workout. The zone uses yellow as its theme colour. Besides the brightness and pleasantness it brings, according to research, the colour Yellow, effectively stimulates children muscle and can evoke hand-foot coordination development of children. Mind: mental and learning The Mind zone is designed as a learning hub that workshops and lessons are made available to for young pupils. The zone possesses a theme of green and organic. Again, the colour of green has an effect of stimulating the memory of children. Kids oriented seats and tables in different shapes and forms allow end-users to move the chairs and tables however they want; children can even sit on floor freely, adding the fun and arousing their interest of learning. Soul: interaction and multi-media The deliciously pink Digital Ring is a display device. Hoisting in the air, whenever children and young learners finish their drawings or compositions, their pieces of work will be posted simultaneously on the device. The little artists or writers can go under the pink ring and see others' and of course their own workpieces displaying on it. All to evoke creativity through multi-media interactions.
