Dongguan Future School

Not only drawing on traditional teaching methods, Songshan Lake Future school also pays attentions on the education reform and future methods of teaching, it proposes the concept of‘seed’, aiming to sow an experimental ‘seed’ on the campus and allowing the cultural continuity to take root , grow and develop in nature. Based on the functions of educational space, Songshan Lake Future school is designed to engage with nature and develop organically with time. So that the students, school staffs and parents will witness the development of the campus. Relative to the freedom of subject selection, the project explores whether it can increase the possibilities of free choices of learning space. Songshan Lake Future school hopes to provide a space where the standardization of course time can be broken, instead, it provides spaces for fragmented multi-period teaching models and the potential for the future updating of the campus. Learning from the basic idea of traditional courtyard architecture layout, fully considering the local climate, community and culture, the school is positioned as an educational "community", and the buildings are semi-enclosed to form an inward space, forming a number of "teaching + open space" of high-efficiency education and learning space. Combined with the local environment, the layout of building complex is designed to be scattered, making the space more flexible and changeable. Through the connection of corridors, the relations of architecture are separated and interdependent. The future educational space is not considered to be a single-function building complex without interactions between indoor and outdoor. The space is interpreted as a flow in this project, where students and teachers can communicate, study, and interact indoors or outdoors. Songshan Lake Future school is more like a community, in which all the meetings, learning, and communications take place unexpectedly, just like a ‘seed’ roots and grows in the free spaces.
