To celebrate the magnificence of the Hangzhou landscape, Hangzhou East Station Mix C is a commercial precinct complex designed to reinterpret the essence of heritage. Embracing peculiar rocks, serene water and seas of clouds inspired by the West Lake and mountains, the design integrates nature into modernity. The complex composes of two clusters of 18m tall precincts, divided by a 40m wide sunken pedestrian plaza. With the new Hangzhou East MTR Station as the starting point of the spatial journey, it marks the axis of the visual corridor that draws people in. The roof structure from abstracted Hangzhou mountains act as a strong visual identity, articulating spaces into wayfinding views. Intending to blur the boundaries between nature and the artificial, terraces in gap spaces and greens are interwind with the overall experience. With the belief that heritage is beyond purely visual resemblance, the project emphasizes highly on proportions of sunken plazas, courtyards, bridges and public pockets that act as a catalyst for public activities. The main pedestrian sunken in the center is the “west lake” embraced by the “mountains”, where events and happenings will be enabled, echoing with the vibrance of shopping and dining experiences around. 山外青山樓外樓 “Green hills rise beyond green hills. 為有源頭活水來 From its source comes an endless flow of water.”.
