Housing & Development Board (HDB) Workplace Transformation

The office design is inspired by Singapore’s public housing authority, the Housing & Development Board (HDB) brand, while reflecting the essence of local, affordable homes and its distinct, recognisable yet bespoke elements. It aims to foster a sense of community and humanistic connection while ensuring a conducive and personal environment for work. Inspired by HDB’s local housing architecture and cultural references, of rhythmic modulation, community pavilions, void decks and greeneries, the design concept brings focus to the importance of community, collaboration, and cultural identity, ensuring that the workspace is not only functional but a space that can connect with both visitors and users. The space emphasises elements of dwelling and familiarity amongst locals, encouraging spontaneous collaboration and a strong sense of belonging within the workplace. The office layout features open collaborative spaces and meeting rooms, offering flexible work options. Design elements inspired by HDB facades are incorporated into the walls, while a soft and warm material palette creates a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. The material selection in this office design incorporates local references, such as terrazzo, concrete, and the familiar heritage-inspired motifs, reflecting the sturdy and utilitarian elements of HDB architecture. The colour palette is drawn from earthy tones inspired by Singapore’s green spaces, with neutral greys, and soft greens applied across the office environment. These colours are balanced with pops of vibrant hues, reflecting home personas. Natural light is also a key aspect of the design, with large windows and open spaces maximising daylight penetration, ensuring that the office remains bright, airy, and welcoming. Greenery, such as potted plants, vertical gardens, and outdoor terraces, brings a sense of tranquillity and warmth to the workspace abode.
