LVM Law Chambers

LVM Chambers was inaugurated in 2017 and is helmed by a very well respected Senior Counsel. The client first approached us in late 2016, to conceptualize and design the interiors of his new office. Having spent the better part of his career at one of the big firms in Singapore, the client’s brief was to create an interior that was less corporate, more open and collaborative, yet imbued with a sense of class and dignity. The space obtained came in the form of 3 identical units, set together like terrace houses, demarcated by columns. Our first approach was to unify the 3 spaces into a single entity; such that within the firm, everyone would be in easy reach to each other, for quick conferences and discussions. Thus, we created the workstation bench, which dominates the central open volume. An enclosing ring of rooms on the outer edge was created to house the lawyers. These rooms are enclosed with full-height glazing to ensure the space enjoys natural day-lighting. In response to the high volume of 4.8m, we then imposed a datum line at 3m all across the office, to inform the threshold of door heights, panels, shelves and others. This datum was initiated by an earlier idea for a loft space. The material palette choices were restricted to traditional building elements, to reflect a sense of honesty and integrity. For example, black steel, concrete, steel bars, mesh and bricks are chosen and applied to bring out its natural beauty rather than finished over. The interior concept has delivered a foil to the usual stuffiness of law firms, choosing instead to find the sweet spot between casual environment and a strong corporate sense; much like how they think their firm to be: bold, purposeful and very effective.
