New building for the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona

On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Royal Polo Club of Barcelona and after 90 years in its facilities on Avenida Diagonal, the sports association is renovating the complex to unify its fragmented and spaceless facilities. The new building has spaces with large spans, allowing for spacious and multipurpose rooms, adapted to the diversity of services offered by the Club. These are intensely related to outdoor spaces, seeking to encourage the celebration of outdoor activities and events. On the second floor, a large porch space makes it possible to carry out sports activities in the open air and generates a reception space for events, functioning as a prelude to the 400 m2 multipurpose room. Likewise, the stairs and circulations are located in strategic places and are designed spacious and with natural light, communicating interior and exterior spaces and inviting to be used. In short, stairs that, in addition to complying with regulations, are healthy and promote active mobility. The deck of the new building extends to form the grandstand of the show jumping arena, enlarged to accommodate major equestrian events. The new layout of the stands not only increases the capacity for equestrian events but also improves their visibility. This point, beside the use of the topography and a limited buildings height, allows minimizing the visual impact of the new facilities in an environment intended to maintain an open space character with buildings of a scale related to their surroundings.
