Parkway MediCentre

Parkway MediCentre is an ambulatory care center that offers comprehensive services, including an urgent care center, an executive health screening service with a dedicated radiology department, a rehabilitation center, specialist outpatient clinics, and a pharmacy. It is located on the second floor of Woodleigh Mall, in a relatively young housing estate in suburban Singapore. Woodleigh's demographics range from young families to the elderly, with varying economic backgrounds. This center aspires to cater to the healthcare needs of the surrounding community by offering comprehensive services in a positive environment. The centre's medical planning, patient experience, and workflow were designed around the site limitation of a clear zone for toilets in the middle of the centre. Despite being in a deep-pocketed space with limited daylight and views, the priority was given to providing natural light and views of nature for Rehab and Health Screening patients, since these patients spend the most time in the centre. This design decision was made in the hope of easing, uplifting, and comforting their healing journey. The center was designed to be welcoming and inclusive, with no physical barriers at the main entrance. The boundary between the mall and the center is blurred as the spaces merge. A centralized waiting area organizes all the functional spaces together, just like the heart of a body, while maximizing views and natural light. The open concept maximizes porosity and interaction between the spaces and departments. In this area, we designed a self-help pantry, healthcare information display, and a children's play wall to add positive distraction and healing experiences. The centre was designed to welcome all and for all to dwell within, with a warm, neutral earth-tone color palette that is hospitable.
