Penn Color Technology Center

In the conceptualization of Penn Color’s pioneering Design Centre in Asia, a coating industry workshop for both designers and clients, the design prioritized three things in its scheme: simplicity and sustainability, user-centrism and a different perspective to industrial space design. This led to the use of minimal materials in its simplest form, with minimum or no treatment, such as employing raw concrete screeded floor, simple plywood and an exposed ceiling as we believe in minimal or zero treatment to the materials, cutting down the carbon footprint in its production. The space planning is done without any hacking of any existing site elements so as to reduce embodied carbon emissions. All spaces were central to the users experience while fulfilling their different needs; with cozy, open, private and public spaces all co-existing in one holistic space. Designing Penn Color’s first Asia Centre, it was appropriate to imbue the space with an Asian sense of sensibility and hospitality that is unassuming, honest and humble, through the use of simple unembellished materials that demonstrates a prosaic quality. This was complemented with designing user-centric spaces, implementing modular construction methods, as well as maximizing natural lighting in indoor spaces for horticulture, wellness and wellbeing for its users. This is our interpretation for the first Penn Color Design Centre in Asia. It aligns with the vision for an open collaborative touchpoint for the creative industry with full commitment towards ethical business practices.
