The Beauty of Ancient Chinese Medicine and Architecture The Chinese medicine of 2000-year history and impression of seeing traditional architecture of Huizhou style featuring white walls and black roof tiles lingering in mind after once traveling in China become the idea of the clinic’s design which is quite different from other typical clinic design. Eastern architecture elements such as white walls, pool and tiles triggers forms of Chinese pitched roof, windows of cracked ice pattern and 3-floor high courtyard. Wood grain architectural concrete brings the history of southern regions of the Yangtze River, open design introducing sunlight and comfortable waiting rooms warm the atmosphere of treatment and echo the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine giving peace, mental and physical balance to patients. Priority is the function of treatment and the 「Eastern modern architecture」is defined by both traditional and modern style. Huge white walls and uneven high-and-low roof curves of the clinic is to reflect Pingtung local sacred mountain Dawu Mountain which is also treated as the sacred mountain in mind of local residents. A small balcony creates art of sculpture and beautiful light and shadow on walls which is also a place to see Dawu Mountain. The design of mirror pool and bright corridor created by architectural concrete in the entry, open and bright waiting rooms, reading areas with lattice bookshelves and independent toilet is to provide a comfortable, tranquil and hygiene waiting space. The Clinic is also a story of collaboration of 2 generations. The bar on the 1st floor is run by the son whose father is the Chinese doctor of the clinic. The bar has a separated entry from the clinic which seems a conflict combination in function in the same building. However, the design of the same architectural concrete walls and columns from the ground floor, warm wood and black iron elements creates a low profile and quite atmosphere of leisure different from typical noisy bars. This is a best case of 2 generations to work and support together though running different business in the multifunctional building. The design of wood grain architectural concrete and a rectangular mirror pool presents a kind of tranquilness and respect for Chinese traditional architecture of Huizhou style. The effect not only catches the attention of every passerby and considers the privacy of patients.
