Silo House is an exploration of architectural form that strikes a balance between space and proportion. The design features three distinct volumes, with a central circulation core connecting them. Unconventionally, the living room is located at the rear of the house to capture the best views of the canal, while the front houses the work areas, including the helper and wet kitchen. Public spaces, such as living and entertainment areas, are situated on the first and attic floors, with private bedrooms nestled between. The house responds to the site's natural topography, with an elevation change of around one meter. This leads to a unique arrival experience, enhanced by a cantilevered car porch roof. The design also prioritizes natural ventilation and greenery, incorporating fenestration that promotes cross ventilation and offers pockets of green throughout the space. Simple materials like glass blocks, ventilator blocks, and textured spray paint finishes envelopes the building. A low gabion boundary wall and sliding gate challenge traditional privacy boundaries, promoting a more open connection with the environment. The lift shaft is reimagined as a feature, enclosed in a circular silo-like structure, reinforcing the house's conceptual identity. And as a homage to the owner’s previous home, we incorporated elements such as the old house signage emblem and also repurposed the dining table top as an artwork feature on the wall.
