Uzbekistan Pavilion – Expo 2025

Osaka

The Uzbekistan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka embodies the country's vision for growth, transformation, and sustainable progress. Under the overarching Expo theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the pavilion invites visitors into the Garden of Knowledge – a poetic, architectural and experiential journey that symbolises a new era for the Central Asian nation. The design reflects Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage, reinterpreted through a contemporary, sustainable lens. The two-storey structure, with a total area of 1,272 sqm (860 sqm of exhibition space), is composed of modular elements and natural materials such as wood, clay, brick, and earth. These materials, rooted in tradition, are reused and fully integrated into biological or technical cycles after the Expo. All timber – sugi, a native cypress – is regionally sourced and traceable by smartphone. A particular highlight is the 8-metre-tall wooden forest of columns, referencing traditional temple architecture and offering a transparent, sheltering space for knowledge exchange. The ground floor, referred to as “The Soil”, presents Uzbekistan’s transformation through exhibits focused on SDGs 4, 7, and 9 – education, renewable energy, innovation, and urban development. Digital tools, traditional crafts, and forward-thinking infrastructure projects such as New Tashkent are showcased through interactive 3D models, animated projections, and Pepper’s Ghost installations. At the heart of the pavilion is a moving platform encircled by a 360-degree multimedia experience. This three-minute ascent connects visitors to a poetic world of voices, music, and animated landscapes, culminating in a view of a blossoming pomegranate tree – symbol of Uzbekistan’s vibrant future. From here, visitors step directly onto the terrace, experiencing a seamless narrative transition from story to space. The pavilion’s visual identity merges modern clarity with traditional ornamentation, inspired by Uzbek Ganch carving. Earthy tones, geometric patterns, and integrated graphics reflect themes of growth and continuity. Open, accessible, and visionary, the Uzbekistan Pavilion is not only a display of national identity but a social learning space – inviting global dialogue on how design can shape a more sustainable, inclusive future.
