Where Humanity Meets Hope

HOME IS NOT A PLACE…IT’S A FEELING People are connected to their homeland. Growing in an environment with family and friends fuels their souls with promising future. Unfortunately, not everyone is being that lucky. Being forced out due to starvation, economy or even politics started to create phenomena of insecurity. 20 people are newly displaced every minute of the day which became a challenge of providing a stable community that copes with these rapid changes. Sheltainer is a building initiative that targets different categories of people including refugees, asylum seekers, students and low-income families. It intendeds to provide a solution that can be readily built anywhere in the world, easy to construct and affordable – hence, the shipping containers. There are millions of unused shipping containers around the world and recycling them not only provides shelter, but also helps reserve the sustainability of a community. The design for a Sheltainer project consists of eight homes per cluster connected together through a courtyard and attached to other clusters through open corners. Furthermore, cities are growing vertically more than horizontally, losing the human scale aspect. The uncomfortable feeling that follows people when walking against massive walls or fences tends to individuality and lacks the social connectivity. That’s why our aim is to create a more Human Scale community easy to be built and cheap to be constructed. Taking in consideration an expandable home which handles the family needs and not limiting their future. We are not targeting only the asylums but also the low-income families, having a flexible design that fulfills all requirements. how many homeless people are there in the world and how many living in super slum accommodation too. Level the slums, stack some containers, add in some stair cases and then homelessness is solved. Maybe not the worlds best accomodation but container has room for a bed, bedside cabinet, kitchenette and an bathroom.
