A responsive skyscraper that defies site constraints to emerge from a tiny triangle into a massive rectangular skyward reach.
Vancouver House is a neo-futurist residential skyscraper in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Construction of the skyscraper began in 2016 and was expected to be finished by the end of 2019, but completion was postponed to summer of 2020. On April 15, 2021, a water pipe on the 29th floor burst and damaged 17 units as well as several elevators.

Design & Structure
BIG mapped all site constraints, including setbacks and shadows on neighboring parks. Using non-linear performance-based design software like PERFORM3D, they ensured the extreme cantilever was structurally viable.
The facade features thick frames for the loggias and balconies, scaled to hold up against the massive steel-truss substructure of the adjacent bridge.
The tower uses post-tensioned reinforced concrete flat slabs. The core walls were engineered to limit cumulative cracks under seismic loads up to 2.0x the Maximum Credible Earthquake.
