Badajoz 97 is an office project located in Barcelona's 22@ technological district, is part of the Urban Improvement Plan for the Pere IV – Badajoz city block. The surrounding urbanization acknowledges and revitalizes the historic fabric of the area, enriching the urban landscape with new passages and high-quality public spaces. This not only includes the preservation of Passatge del Camp but also the introduction of a system of passages that opens up the historically dense industrial block. The building addresses the diversity of the urban environment by combining different scales in its design. While a base up to the sixth floor aligns with the scale of the existing residences on Pere IV Street, a tower soaring to the twelfth floor recognizes the significance of Badajoz Street as a key axis in the 22@ district. The ground floor of the building features a generous double-height entrance porch that seamlessly integrates with the public space, facilitating a close relationship between the building and the street. The parking, located on the lower floors, prioritizes sustainable mobility by offering 150 bicycle spaces and convenient access for cyclists. One of the most remarkable aspects of the project is its innovative structural solution. The "Holedeck" post-tensioned unidirectional beam system was employed, allowing spans of up to 18 meters without the need for intermediate vertical structures. This results in spacious office areas with unobstructed layouts. The perforated geometry of the beams also allows for the integration of utilities, ensuring a clear height of 2.9 meters in work areas. The building's exterior design draws inspiration from Poblenou's industrial past, featuring exposed brickwork in black, paying homage to the neighborhood's industrial history. However, it also looks to the future by opening up to city views through linear terraces on the ends of each office floor. The presence of greenery on these terraces enhances user comfort and promotes urban biodiversity. Badajoz 97 prioritizes energy efficiency through passive measures such as sunshades on sunny facades and exterior blinds on openings with direct radiation. Additionally, it incorporates solar panels on the roof and the south facade, maximizing the utilization of available solar energy. The building's facade adapts to the specific needs of each interior space, optimizing transparency in the offices and maximizing solar gain in circulation areas. Badajoz 97 combines structural innovation, sustainable design, and integration with the urban environment. The proposal is not just an efficient workspace but also a testament to the commitment to sustainability and urban quality of life.
